January 2019 Newsletter

Hello and a very happy new year to you all.

Our last meeting of 2018 was a club day and we started off with quite a long talk from a gentleman named Colin Smith.
He is the Southeast area rep for the AWGB and his aim was to sell us the benefits of our club becoming a part of the organisation.

I am not going to even try to relay here what his talk contained. The conversations that followed afterwards amongst members seemed to be of mixed feelings. More about this will be brought up at the AGM.

After Colin we carried on with our normal club day meeting with a couple of small lathes out and of course the club lathe.
Chris Withall took on the big lathe and in the time left he turned two bowls.
Keith Leonard and Paul Hunt were turning a selection of Christmas decorations.

And that was our last meeting for 2018 helped along with a few biscuits and mince pies to go with the tea and coffee.

Our next meeting is on Saturday 12th January 2019 and most importantly it is the AGM and as I mentioned earlier the subject of “to join or not to join” is the question will be brought up so if you want to have your say please turn up.

Also it is the time to vote in your committee for the next 12 months.
If you think changes need to be made and want to nominate someone for one of the seats please get their consent first and have someone to second your proposal.

After the AGM we will have our usual club day with a couple of lathes out and you can wander around to see who is doing what etc.

There is a small error in your meetings calendar for this year. The demonstrator for June is John Boyne Aitkin, not Roger.

That’s about it for this one so see you all on the 12th.

Graham.
